Are battery chargers unique to a type of battery?

StumbleUpon.com

I have a wireless mouse that came with 2 rechargable AA Ni-MH batteries in it. They’re quite old, now, and are starting to lose their charge much more quickly. I have a number of rechargable alkaline AA batteries on hand already- if I replace the Ni-MHs with the Alkalines, would I still be able to safely use the charger/Wireless receiver that came with the mouse to charge the batteries? Or would I need to get another set of Ni-MHs?

If you’re replacing the batteries, you should replace them with the same type. That is, you should buy some more Ni-MH type batteries.

This is simply because Alkaline batteries and Ni-MH batteries have different chemicals inside them, and so could be badly affected by the wrong type of charger.

    Hope this helps,

    Tom.

Alkalines are not meant to be recharged. Yes, they did produce an alkaline mix that was limited rechargable. I would suggest that you buy new NiMH.
I would not try to recharge a “rechargable alkaline” in anything that was not make expressly for them.

NiCd’s an NiMH recharge the same way.

Rechargable alkalines were a bad idea to start and ni-cads probably wouldn’t work at all because of their low voltage. You should stick with the ni-mh’s.
