What are the best rechargeable AA batteries and charger?

I’m going on a trip soon and want to get a set of long-life for my camera. I would like them to retain their charge as long as possible. Any suggestions?

    Nickel-metal hydride batteries for inexpensive rechargable solutions have been the best choice for a while now. They don’t develope the same “memory” problems that NiCad batteries have, and they last for thousands of charges (well, maybe only a thousand). In small print on the batteries you’ll find a rating for “mAh” which indicates the amount of power they will store. The poorer batteries rate as low as 1000 and the better ones are closer to 3000. Obviously look for the better ones — usually the price isn’t a lot different.

    For a charger, any that are rated for Nickel-metal hydride are fine — just be sure to test it before your trip. They have smaller ones that hold two or four batteries that work well.
